Getting a lot of traffic is something that many of us, as webmasters, aspire to. As a matter of fact, we may spend a considerable amount of time and resources making sure that our traffic stream is constantly flowing. Although it is a good idea to make sure that this is always the case, it is also a good idea that you should explore new avenues of getting traffic, just to make sure that you aren't missing anything that is worthy of your attention. As a matter of fact, if you are not finding new avenues of marketing you may be leaving more money on the table than what you could ever know.
Of course, each form of traffic is going to differ from another in terms of intensity and profitability, but it is important for you to understand that a warm, interested audience is always going to out preform a cold, untargetted audience. That is why it is important for you to look for traffic that hits your website without a lot of the barriers that make marketing a difficult task. How do you do this? One way is to get a recommendation from your existing customers, a form of traffic that works better than almost any other.
One of the difficult parts about word of mouth advertising is getting the recommendation from your clients. There are a few different ways that you can go about this task, and the more you put into it, the more you are going to get out of it. Here are 3 different ways that I use regularly to get my clients to open up about me and my business.
First of all, I always make sure that I overdeliver and I try my best never to give them a reason to complain. This will get you the natural recommendation, one that is truly from your client. Although this can be difficult, especially when dealing with a client that is not treating you with the same respect, it only takes one problem for you to lose your good reputation. On the other hand, people that are treated with respect will recommend you without hesitation.
Another thing that you can do to get recommendations is to ask for them, either on your website or through email. Although not everyone will be willing to take the time to do so, there are enough people that will to make it worth your while to make the provision available. Try to ask them to do so soon after they have already taken action and it is fresh in their mind.
Finally, you can give them something in return for passing along your information. I often do this on the honor system, giving them something for free and asking that they recommend me to one or two of their friends. Although not everyone is going to follow through, a surprising number of people will. The resulting traffic is one that you will find beneficial, as it will be warm and ready to take action.
